Private 24002, 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 03/08/1916. Age 23.
Eldest son of Henry Minter, a builders carpenter, and Ada Eliza nee Plant of 11 Osborne Terrace, Langer Road, Felixstowe. In 1911 William was working as a hairdresser, living with his parents, older sister Elsie and younger brothers Leonard & Walter.
William volunteered in Bury St Edmunds in February 1916 where he joined the 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. At the beginning of August the 11th Battalion were at Bazentin-Le-Petit. The 3rd of August was a quiet day until at 7pm the enemy discharged gas which was felt slightly. At 8pm some shelling occurred, 2Lt V. K. Mason & 4 OR were killed or died of wounds, William would be one of the 4. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
