Born in West London in 1918, the elder of two children of Thomas Hamstead and Grace nee Bullen. Thomas married Violet Chalk in 1942 and they had a son David who sadly died in infancy. Thomas parents moved to 56 King Street, Walton.
Thomas was accidentally killed due to a crush injury when a Valentine S.P. Gun overturned in a skid. Buried at Calne (Holy Trinity) Churchyard, Wiltshire. Sergeant Hamstead’s death is recorded at Westmoreland
