Private 6021174, 5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 11/10/1943. Age 26.
Born 14th November 1916 in Felixstowe, the second of three children of George Washington Pomroy and his second wife Ellen Eliza nee Carrington. Rufus had another eight half siblings from his father's first marriage to Ada nee Atkins who appears to have died shortly after childbirth in 1906. In 1939 the family were living at 83 Queen Street, Walton. In 1940 Rufus married Sylvia Ethel Maude Morgan and they set up home at 23 Orford Road, Felixstowe, their son Michael being born after Rufus was taken prisoner of war.
Captured 15/02/42 in Thailand where he remained a prisoner of war until his death from beriberi. Buried at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
