John Henry Mansell was born 25th August 1889 at Canning Town, Essex, the son of Thomas Mansell & Fanny Rosa nee Springs. John was the eldest of 12 children. Husband of Flora Mansell nee Chandler of 192 High Road, Felixstowe. His brother Samuel George was in the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment was killed in action at Le Touquet on the 29th December 1914. The 1st Battalion Essex Regiment relieved the Royal West Kents on the west side of the divisional front at Orange Hill on the 17th May 1917. They had been under varying degrees of shell fire throughout May and consequently suffered the loss of 4 officers & 12 other ranks with 45 wounded. Corporal Mansell was killed on the 20th May 1917 & is buried at Orange Trench Cemetery, Monchy-Le-Preux
