Pilot Officer (Wireless Operator) 55957, 420 (Royal Canadian Air Force) Squadron, Royal Air Force. Died 30/07/1944. Age 22.

 

Born in 1922 the son of Robert James Cusack and Edith Amelia (Ethel) nee Southgate. In 1939 the family were living at 9 Graham Road, Felixstowe

 

Charles was on board Halifax BIII NA528 which took off 0529 30 July 1944 from Tholthorpe to attack a strong point at Amaye-sur-Seulles in the Normandy battle area. Landed at 0920 at RAF White Waltham Berkshire but over-ran the end of the runway and ended up in a railway cutting on the NW side of the airfield. He died from his injuries. Buried at Oxford (Botley) Cemetery. Pilot Officer Cusack’s death is recorded at Maidenhead.

 

Charles is the nephew of Frederick Southgate died WW1.
