At 6.32am on the 5th January the enemy attacked and gained ground, about 250 advanced under heavy bombardment  and after repeated counter attacks the original position was regained at 6.15pm. The enemy sustained heavy casualties. During the afternoon of 6th January the enemy again occupied Sap Head on their right front. After reconnoitering, arrangements were made for artillery co-operation. This is presumably when Arthur was killed in action. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
