2018 Torch Roll Call
The first event we helped to organise and where the Felixstowe Remembers name came from was the World War One Torch Roll Call Event in 2018. The idea for this came from something similar that was done in Lewes in 2017.

The event was held at the Felixstowe War Memorial on the evening of Sunday 11th November 2018. It involved 163 volunteers hold burning torches, each one represented a fallen hero from Felixstowe named on the memorial. All 163 torches were lit and lined up on the road between the memorial and the Town Hall, representatives of Felixstowe Academy, the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and Air Cadets then read out the name, age, and date of death of each man. As a name was read out a torchbearer walked forward to the War Memorial and extinguished their torch, this continued until no lit torches remained.

This proved to be a really poignant tribute to the brave men of World War One and really brought home the number of men that died from Felixstowe, the town only had around 5000 residents at that time and to lose 163 men in a few short years must have had a terrible effect on the community, I'm sure every family in the town would have known at least one of the fallen.
